Viking Cruises, a cruise line formed in 1997 that offers river, ocean, and expedition cruises, has submitted 16 trademark applications, indicating its ambition to enter the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse.

According to the applications, which were filed with the USPTO on October 18, the company intends to provide:

  • Media authenticated by NFTs;
  • Virtual goods, namely, onboard product offerings, food and beverages and consumer merchandise for use in online virtual worlds;
  • Computer programs featuring travel and travel tours apps and games for use in virtual worlds;
  • Online marketplace for buyers and sellers of downloadable digital goods;
  • Software for selling, buying, trading, storing and managing NFTs, digital media, and more.

The news was tweeted by trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis.

Although the cruise industry has not yet fully embraced Web3, numerous lines are jumping on board:

  • In August, Carnival Cruise Line filed similar trademark applications to enter the metaverse and NFT space.
  • In May, Celebrity Cruises announced the release of its ‘Peacemakers Sunset‘ NFT collection.
  • In April, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) announced the launch of its NFT collection.
