The CryptoPunks non-fungible token (NFT) collection has once again made headlines with a noteworthy sale, as one of its nine alien characters fetched over $12 million.

Punk #635, the focal point of the transaction, exchanged hands for 4,000 ETH, equivalent to approximately $12.4 million at the time of sale on April 25. The deal was facilitated by Fountain, a broker specializing in high-value NFTs.

Following this transaction, CryptoPunks #635 now stands as the sixth-highest sale within the collection, adding to the series of notable transactions.

In recent months, the collection witnessed significant sales, including #7804, which sold for $16.4 million last month, and #3100, another Alien Punk, which fetched around $16.2 million just two weeks prior.

While the record for the highest sale in the collection remains at $23.7 million for Alien #5822 in 2022, these recent transactions underscore the ongoing vigor of the NFT market, maintaining strong interest within the community.

Released in 2017, CryptoPunks comprises 10,000 algorithmically generated 24×24 pixel portraits. In 2022, the project was acquired by Yuga Labs, the company behind another popular NFT collection — the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).

In addition to its remarkable sales, CryptoPunks has also made strides with various initiatives. Last week, the project unveiled “Free to Claim,” a comprehensive book chronicling its NFT journey. The book, featuring insights from its founders, showcases the iconic collection and is available in two versions.

In a separate initiative in 2023, CryptoPunks partnered with Avant Arte to offer NFT holders a 48-hour window to turn their digital assets into unique physical art prints.
