Guernsey Post, the postal service for the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, is set to release its first series of non-fungible token (NFT) stamps. These stamps, while collectible, will not be used for postal purposes.
The inaugural set features “Billy and Nanny,” the Golden Guernsey Goats.
Each physical stamp in the series will have a digital counterpart, which can be accessed by scanning the QR code on the back of the stamp.
The first series will be available on July 24, with a presale of 300 pieces starting on July 17.
This initiative is a collaboration with StampFinity, a postal stamp manufacturer that also produces crypto stamps.
Guernsey Post’s entry into the NFT stamp market follows similar moves by other postal services worldwide.
Recently, the Belgian Post Group, known as Bpost, announced the launch of physical stamps paired with NFTs this autumn. This effort involves partnerships with postal services from Austria, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
In May, the Ghana Post commemorated the 25th coronation anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with special stamps linked to NFTs, honoring his contributions to Ghana’s development.
Last year, Deutsche Post, Germany’s national postal service, introduced NFT stamps featuring “Historic Buildings” from Germany.
