The Museum of the City of New York, the history and art museum in Manhattan, New York City, New York, founded by Henry Collins Brown, in 1923, has filed a trademark application, signaling its plans to enter the metaverse and the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

According to the trademark application, submitted to the USPTO on August 10, the museum plans to offer:

  • Virtual goods;
  • NFTs;
  • Crypto-collectibles;
  • Crypto-collectibles and application tokens used and transferred on software as a service (SaaS);
  • Crypto-collectibles and application tokens are accessed on a platform as a service (PAAS).

The news was shared via Twitter by trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis.

It is not the first time a museum has taken steps toward Web3. In May, Dubai’s Museum of the Future announced a partnership with Binance NFT marketplace for the launch of its first NFT collection, “The Most Beautiful NFTs in the Metaverse.”

Likewise, Luckmon announced a collaboration with Morrowbogi and Chamsori Gramophone Museum, and Edison Science Museum to establish a unique NFT initiative that includes physical ownership of a historical innovation by American Icon Thomas Edison.
