KEY POINTS

  • Animoca Brands, MyAnimeList, and San FranTokyo are the launch partners of “Anime Foundation.”
  • The Anime Foundation seeks to establish a community-owned cultural protocol, offering diverse experiences and opportunities for fans, creators, and brands globally.
  • Collaboration with Mocaverse enables the launch of “Anime ID,” a decentralized identifier facilitating access to blockchain initiatives.

Animoca Brands and its Japan division, MyAnimeList, the world’s leading anime and manga platform, and San FranTokyo (SFT Studios) are the launch partners of “Anime Foundation” — a Web3-focused initiative.

The Anime Foundation aims to create a community-owned cultural protocol centered on anime and manga. This project will offer new experiences and opportunities for fans, creators, and brands worldwide.

The foundation will also collaborate with Mocaverse — Animoca Brands’ flagship Web3 project. Through this partnership, they will launch “Anime ID,” a decentralized identifier (DID) designed to help users enter the Web3 ecosystem.

Owning an Anime ID will grant users access to blockchain-based community initiatives and various Web3 experiences, such as GameFi, SocialFi, and IP content. Additionally, it will open up new monetization avenues and allow users to earn Realm points.

This strategic collaboration comes after Animoca Brands Japan made a JPY¥300 million (approximately $2 million) strategic investment in MyAnimeList.

These efforts align with Animoca Brands’ broader strategy to expand its presence in Japan, the home of manga and anime. This expansion includes the upcoming launch of a non-fungible token (NFT) launchpad by Animoca Brands Japan this summer, offering strategic marketing support and a sales platform for Web3 projects.

Animoca Brands has been focusing on bringing Web3 opportunities to the anime and manga industries through various initiatives.

In 2023, Animoca Brands Japan released an NFT collection featuring “Liar Liar” anime characters as exclusive eFigurines.

In April, the company partnered with the fantasy game Nine Chronicles M for multiple NFT sales. Earlier this month, Animoca Brands launched “Fairy Tail” NFT cards, featuring 29 characters from the popular manga series.
