World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., more commonly referred to as “THE WWE,” has filed several new trademark applications for “WWE LOCKUP,” “LOCKUP,” “WWE MOONSAULT,” and “LOCKUP”, expressing its intention to enter the metaverse.

According to the trademark applications, WWE aims to provide non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and create an online marketplace for buying and selling NFTs and digital assets.

Also, the company intends to provide NFT and crypto exchanges and create online stores for virtual goods.

Michael Kondoudis, a Washington DC-based trademark lawyer who tracks Metaverse and NFT trademark filings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, tweeted the news yesterday.

The WWE is another sports-related brand joining the list of large companies that have applied for trademarks indicating their intentions to enter the metaverse.

For example, the NFT-based company founded by Michael Jordan and his son Jeffrey Jordan, HEIR, filed a trademark application titled “6 RINGS” earlier this month for entering the metaverse with virtual goods such as clothing and footwear.
