French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent has filed trademark applications for its name and logo, indicating its intentions to enter the metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) space.

According to the trademark applications, filed with the USPTO on Jan 12, 2023, the company plans to offer virtual goods — including perfumery, make-up, skin care preparations, and hair care preparations — for use in the metaverse and other virtual environments.

The trademarks further specify downloadable media files — comprising artwork, text, music, and video — authenticated by NFTs and related to the aforementioned virtual goods.

Other plans include offering online retail store services featuring virtual goods.

Michael Kondoudis, a trademark attorney who specializes in Web3-related applications, tweeted the news earlier today.

Yves Saint Laurent is not the only French luxury fashion house to take moves toward Web3; Hermès and Louis Vuitton submitted similar trademark applications last year in order to enter the metaverse and embrace NFTs.

Meanwhile, Dior Beauty collaborated with Emperia to launch a Christmas-themed virtual store last month. Paco Rabanne launched a collaboration with Selfridges in April to sell 12 ‘unwearable’ dresses as NFTs.
