Hormel Foods Is Set to Enter the Metaverse and Embrace NFTs

Hormel Foods has filed trademark applications to enter the metaverse and NFT space.

Hormel Foods, the American food processing company founded in 1891 in Austin, Minnesota, has filed trademark applications for “SPAM,” “SKIPPY,” “PLANTERS,” “MR. PEANUT,” and “HORMEL” to enter the metaverse and the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

According to the trademark applications, submitted to the USPTO on July 6, the company aims to provide:

  • NFT-backed media;
  • Virtual foods and drinks for use in virtual worlds;
  • NFT marketplace.

The news was shared via Twitter by metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis.

Increasingly, trademark filings related to NFTs and Metaverse are being filed, with the food industry leading the way.

Mars, UTZ, Conagra Brands, Panera Bread, Wingstop, Panda Express, McDonald’s, and others have also applied for trademarks to enter the metaverse with virtual food and drinks and embrace NFTs.
